Dr. Kimiko Kika

Kimiko Kika is originally from Williams Lake, BC. She received a Bachelor of Science from the University of Western Ontario and completed her Doctor of Dental Medicine at the University of British Columbia. Upon completing her dental training, Dr. Kika worked as a general dentist for two years before returning to complete specialty training. In 2007, she completed her Certificate in Pediatric Dentistry at the University of Washington in Seattle, WA.

Dr. Kimiko Kika

During her studies, Dr. Kika has received several clinical and academic awards of distinction, including the James R. Roche Award of Excellence. This is awarded to the individual achieving the highest score in the nation on the written portion of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry Examination.

She is a past Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatric Dentistry at the University of Washington and was on the medical staff at Children's Hospital in Seattle. Upon returning to Canada, she completed the necessary examinations to become a Certified Specialist in Pediatric Dentistry. Dr. Kika moved to Nanaimo and joined Holly Tree Dental in 2008. When she is not at the clinic she enjoys being outside spending time with her husband and two daughters.


Dr. James Chan

James Chan is originally from Port Alberni, B.C. He received his undergraduate degree from Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario. He continued his education at Temple University School of Dentistry in Philadelphia, PA. In 2002, he graduated from the Doctorate of Dental Medicine and Master of Business Administration Dual Degree program. Upon completing his dental training, he moved to Phoenix, Arizona and practiced for a period of five years.

Dr. James Chan

His experience was predominantly with children and included treating Navajo and Apache children on remote reservations, as well as treating the underserved Hispanic population. Through advanced training, Dr. Chan was able to offer his patients of variety behaviour management modalities ranging from non pharmacological behaviour management, nitrous oxide sedation, oral conscious sedation, and dental treatment under general anesthesia.

He returned for specialty training and completed a two year pediatric dental residency at University of California Los Angeles. While at UCLA, his responsibilities included being Chief Resident. During his academic career, Dr. Chan received multiple awards of distinction including the Arthur J Nowak Award of Excellence for the highest score in the nation on the oral portion of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry Examination. Upon graduation as a Certified Specialist in Pediatric Dentistry, Dr. Chan and his wife decided to return to the Island to be close to family.


Dr. Margaret Jamieson

Margaret Jamieson is originally from Parksville, BC. She completed her Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Victoria. In 2007, she received her Doctor of Dental Medicine from the University of British Columbia. Dr. Jamieson practiced as a general dentist in Qualicum Beach before moving to Houston, Texas with her husband. In Texas, she continued to practice general dentistry, predominantly with children.

Dr. Margaret Jamieson

Dr. Jamieson decided to pursue specialty training after practicing for 4 years and received her Certificate in Pediatric Dentistry from the University of Texas in Houston. She also received her Master of Science in Dentistry for her research entitled " Hispanic Caregivers’ Knowledge and Understanding of Caries in Children". During her studies, Dr. Jamieson received several awards including the Richard C. Pugh Achievement Award for her score on the written portion of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry examination.

Prior to returning to Canada, Dr. Jamieson completed the required examinations to become a Certified Specialist in Pediatric Dentistry and a Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada. In 2013, she moved to Nanaimo with her husband and three children to be closer to family and to enjoy the great outdoors that Vancouver Island has to offer.
